The mill has woven bed linen for forty years and does not usually sell a single bolt. They made an exception after our second visit, and we have not asked why.
Choosing the cloth
Each season we are shown about thirty cottons. We leave with a handful: a check, a stripe or two, a gingham and one plain. The bed linen is woven from the same yarns, so a Rose check pyjama and a Rose check duvet cover are the same rose. The towels come from Barcelos and are matched by eye.
One cutting of each goes on a ring, terry and percale together, so we can hold a towel against a sheet before we order either.
Terry this winter. Next summer, probably more seersucker.
