Piping is a cord wrapped in a strip of cloth and sewn into a seam. It gives an edge something to hold, and on a pillowcase it keeps the corners from going soft.
Where it goes
The blush stripe has it in plum and the butter stripe in brown, on the cover, the pillowcases and the pyjama collar and cuffs. Each piece takes about twenty minutes longer to sew.
On the other cloths we left it out. The pattern already draws the edge.
